Shortly before his possible nomination to the presidential candidate of his party, Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, an important political opponent of state leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was published.
Imamoglu is accused of membership of a criminal organization and corruption, reported the Anadolu news agency, referring to the public prosecutor.
“In the light of a great tyranny”
Imamoglu released a video on platform X in the morning, in which he spoke about hundreds of police officers at the front door. “We are in the face of a great tyranny,” he wrote. But he will not give up.
In the early Wednesday morning he posted another post that shows him in his dressing room (see above), with the head “a blow is moved to the will of the nation.”
Powerful rival Erdogans
Imamoglu is the most powerful opponent of Erdogans together with the CHP mayor of Ankara, Mansur Yavas. He submitted his candidacy for the presidential elections of 2028.
University canceled diploma
On Tuesday, however, the University of Istanbul revealed its taken over university degree due to “clear errors”. Imamoglu could therefore be excluded from the candidacy in the next presidential election. Reason: A university diploma is a condition for this.
