EU alerted: – Is there a big war against Russia at the door?

Date:

According to the European Commission, the EU must immediately prepare for the real possibility of a large -scale war with Russia. “History will not forgive us inactivity,” warns the authority led by Ursula von der Leyen in a new strategy document about the future of European defense.

If Russia would reach its destinations in Ukraine, the bloody fighting is probably not enough. On the contrary, it is feared that this will also “reward” his territorial ambitions for his aggression. The year 2030 is considered a possible period.

In particular, sleepless nights also prepare the announcements of US President Donald Trump, according to which the Atomic Superpower USA will no longer be unconditionally available than a guarantee for peace in Europe in the future. “The security architecture on which we trust can no longer be considered as a matter of course,” said Von der Leyen about the presentation of the so -called white book. You now have to strengthen your own skills and invest in defense.

Seven important areas
To effectively scare Russia and other aggressive actors, it is now necessary from the EU Commission’s point of view to close existing military gaps in seven important areas as quickly as possible. According to the new strategy document, this air defense and rocket defense, but also artillery systems, drones and military transport capacities include. According to the committee, the EU countries must work closely together when buying and ordering at least 40 percent of the required goods together.

“Joint purchasing is the most efficient means of purchasing large amounts of consumer goods such as ammunition, rockets and drones. But joint purchasing is also crucial for the implementation of more complex projects,” says The White Book. This is, for example, because bundling the demand is leaving the costs, sending clear question signals to the arms industry and enable the smooth cooperation between national armed forces.

To finance the upgrade, the committee published two weeks ago is provided for EU loans of 150 billion euros and exceptions to the strict EU debt rules. A total of 800 billion euros must be mobilized in the coming four years. The EU committee also wants to release requirements and regulations for the arms industry. The plans must also make it possible to support Ukraine even more militively through Russia in the future.

Brisantes theme USA
In the strategy, the strategy is much less clearly warned than initially intended by the EU outside country Kaja Kallas and the EU defense commissioner Andrius Kubilius. Corresponding explicit passages of an older text design did not enter the final version after the intervention of the Ursula von der Leyen cabinet.

There is criticism from the European Parliament. “A white paper about European defense is only useful if it recognizes reality and this includes an honest re-evaluation of transatlantic relationships,” started the German green parliament member Hannah Neumann. This shows that one can no longer trust the United States, but is almost completely dependent on them in central skills.

If billions of accounts are now invested, they would have to flow specifically in building their own capacities – from air defense to cyber to military education. The seven strategic investment areas for this are a good step.

Clear warnings were removed
In the earlier design for the white book, it had specifically said about dependencies on the United States that the United States could possibly limit or even prevent the use of important components for military use. The only way to overcome dependencies is therefore the development of the necessary skills through ordinary European armament projects.

The background of the formulations was clearly the latest experiences of the Ukraine attacked by Russia. The country should have experienced how Trump’s government could limit the use of American weapon systems from far after it had refused to meet requirements for possible peace talks with Russia and a raw material agreement.

It is now afraid that the US, in the case of disagreements or conflicts, can also paralyze weapon systems that are delivered to the NATO partners from a distance. This applies in particular to high-tech products such as Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II. At the same time, however, there is also concern that the United States could completely withdraw militarily from Europe if US weapons companies will receive fewer orders from the EU in the future.
