Vienna election top candidate Judith Pühringer and former minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) presented a banner against the Lobau tunnel on Friday. It hangs on the Greens Parliamentary Club. The two agreed that the nature reserve had to be kept.
In the election campaign, Viennese topics such as education, kindergartens, public transport, affordable housing and energy prices would use. Nobody would have asked her when the Lobau tunnel would come, said Pühringer. There are already enough test reports that would see the tunnel as the worst solution.
Spokeswoman for Climate Protection, Gewessler, remembered the last decision of the Federal Administrative Court, who had submitted an application for a provisional ruling for a lack of legal basis. “The Drives government with the demolition engraver and spends billions to build a fossil monument that falls outside of each basis,” she said. The Lobau tunnel is ecological, healthy and financially unreasonable.
Other traffic solution needed
“Nothing speaks for this tunnel. Everything suggests that the Lobau remains. For people, for fresh air, for a careful treatment of tax money and a careful treatment of the future of the children of this city,” Pühringer added. The local population would need a traffic solution, said Gewessler. Fighting traffic jams with even more cars never fight the solution.
In December 2021, as Minister of Climate Protection, Gewessler had ensured that the provisional building stop of the project, which has been controversial for decades.
