In fact, the American constitution allows only two terms. To change this, two -thirds majorities are needed in both houses of the congress. Alternatively, the permission of two -thirds of the US states is also possible.
As a vice president of another candidate, he could, for example, compete to take over the office, Trump said on Sunday. “Many people want me to do that,” he said in terms of a third term. He “likes to work”, but there is still a lot of time and very early in the current government period. In July the politician even meant that people “would no longer vote” if he won the presidential election.
MP brought initiative
The Republican is already president from 2017 to 2021 and has been back in office since January 2025. Since 1951, the Constitutional Law has determined that no one can be chosen as president more than twice. The Republican Congressman Andy Ogles brought an initiative in January to increase the duration in three periods. However, realistic opportunities do not get this attempt.
