Israel will set up a new authority for a “voluntary” departure of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. The vision of US President Donald Trump to completely erase the enclave is a step closer.
The authority must be subordinate to the Ministry of Defense and “the voluntary departure of residents of the Gaza Strip to third countries in a safe and controlled manner,” Israeli media quoted from a declaration of the Defense Minister of Defense Israel Katz.
People who want to leave the country must be abandoned “in accordance with Israeli and international law and in accordance with the vision of US President Donald Trump,” said the statement.
The Israeli security cabinet had previously approved a corresponding proposal from Katz. It was not mentioned which third countries should be.
Criticism of “voluntary”
The Israeli peace of the peace movement now condemned the establishment of the new exit authority on platform X as an “indelible thorn in the eye” for Israel. “If life in a certain place is made impossible by bombing and bumping, it is not ‘voluntary’ when people go,” said it.
Katz had already instructed the army at the beginning of February to develop a corresponding plan after US President Trump had proposed to move two million Palestinians from the coastal strip. In the presence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the US president announced that the United States would take over the Gaza Strip and transform into an economically flourishing “Riviera of the Middle East”. According to the Testament of Trump, the inhabitants of the area must be placed in other Arab countries in the region.
According to the Egyptian media, the government in Cairo recently rejected reports that it should be ready for the temporary admission of half a million people from the Gaza Strip.
