The Danish government is pleased to show that the American delegation only wants to visit a military base of the US on the island on its coming visit to Greenland. The original travel plans had caused sharp criticism in Greenland and Danish government officials because of repeated threats for the United States.
The Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen told the RadioStation DR on Wednesday that it was “very positive” that the American delegation had changed its original plans for her stay on the island.
Meeting with American soldiers
The office of the American Vice President James Vance had stated on Tuesday that he would accompany his wife Usha during their previously proved Greenland trip on Friday. On the PituFUFK Space Base, Vance therefore receives “a briefing about questions about Arctic Security and they meet American soldiers”.
Basic instead of dog sled races and cultural program
The White House originally announced that USSha Vance would visit the autonomous Danish area from Thursday to Saturday, together with her son and an American delegation. So she wanted to visit historic places, learn more about the culture of Greenland and watch the national dog sled race.
According to the Greenland’s head of the government government, it must also be accompanied by the National American Security Advisor Mike Waltz. The American Energy Minister Chris Wright must also be part of the delegation.
Trump does not let go of the takeover threats
US President Donald Trump had already stated in 2019 in his first term that he wanted to buy Greenland. Since he took office in January 2025, he has emphasized several times that he wanted to bring the Arctic Island area under American control. Greenland and Denmark determine an annexation.
