The Danish head of the government announced itself a day after a visit to the American vice president JD Vance on Greenland. Mette Frederiksen wanted to strengthen the “unit” between Denmark and the Arctic Island Area, announced her office on Saturday.
The visit is planned from Wednesday to Friday. According to his own statement, Frederiksen is looking forward to continuing with the future Greenland -head Jens Frederik Nielsen.
As reported, the Danish government had previously rejected VANCE’s allegations for dealing with Greenland. “We are open to criticism, but to be honest, we appreciate the tone in which it was formulated,” said Foreign Minister Lars Lökke Rasmussen in a video on Saturday. “So you don’t talk to tight allies – and I still consider Denmark and the US as a narrow ally.”
Vance: “Don’t do it right”
Vance had visited the American military Basic Pituffik in Greenland on Friday with his wife and the national security adviser Mike Waltz. “Our message to Denmark is very simple: you have not done a good job for people in Greenland,” he said. For example, it has not invested enough in security architecture.
About 57,000 people live on the largest island in the world. Valuable raw materials are stored in the soil that have hardly been used so far. Greenland has been autonomous since 1979 in many areas, but the former colonial power still decides in areas such as foreign and defense policy.
