He received a letter of thanks, a medal for civil courage: he is one of the two men who pursued the perpetrator of Aschaffenburg until the police could arrest him. In the meantime, he became the target of the officials during the chase. Now the 30-year-old Somalier finally gets the media attention he deserves and needs to be deported.
He is the previously unseen pursuiter of the perpetrator of Aschaffenburg, to whom the Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder writes: “In this situation they have proven determination and courage in this situation. They responded immediately and acted usefully.” Ahmed Mohamed Odowaa has photographed the letter and shows it to the Aschaffenburg medium “Main-Eecho” as proof.
Söder thanks for civil courage
Odowaa was not only an eyewitness of the cruel act of Aschaffenburg in January, in which a two -year -old boy and a 41 -year -old family man killed by a knife and a little girl and another man were seriously injured. He was also one of the two men who then continued the perpetrator and had a view until the police could arrest the man. So far, the 30 -year -old Somalier has not received much media attention. Söder calls the use in a letter a “impressive example of civil courage”, who deserves “thanks, recognition and maximum respect”.
The media reporting over Odowaa is currently great: because he threatens to deportation despite his bourgeois courage:
“Wanted to make sure that no one else hurt”
In the meantime, Odowaa himself was the target of the officials. The attacker was rather strange to him and his friends because he asked her about “marijuana, hash or cigarettes” what Odowaa and his friends said. Odoas also confirmed the public prosecutor.
When the 30-year-old shouts heard, he immediately thought of the man who had asked her before because he felt strange. He wanted to intervene when he saw the perpetrator and the 41-year-old, as a result, varying family man on the ground. The seemingly mentally ill 28-year-old Afghan fled to be prosecuted by the knowledge. “I wanted to make sure that he didn’t hurt other people,” says Odowaa.
In the meantime, his pursuers are no longer there – at the request of the public prosecutor it will be clear later. Because the two Somalis were temporarily arrested because there was a suspicion that they were part of the crime. The two inevitably ended their persecution. Only another pursuer who describes Odowaa as an “Italian man” makes it clear that the 30-year-old Somalier is not the attacker you are looking for.
Söder thanks him not only for his dedication after the terrible act of violence in the Bavarian Aschaffenburg. He and other rescuers also give the Christophorus medal in May. According to the State Chancellor, it is awarded for rescue cases, which were carried out in particularly difficult circumstances, but without immediate danger to life for the Savior. Despite his courageous intervention, today it is uncertain how long Odowaa can stay in Germany.
The 30-year-old came from Italy to Germany in January 2024. He has no papers, he only wears the copy of a provisional document. He would be tolerated in Germany and is housed in a refugee accommodation in the Aschaffenburg district. He would also like to work, as he says. “I should not stay, but I would like it,” said the Somalier “Main-Eecho”.
Hero is not stored by deportation
At the beginning of April, Odowaa will receive Post again in the form of oral information – the written decision is still being processed. This time, however, it was not a medal or thank you: he had to leave Italy before July 8.
Shortly after Aschaffenburg’s crime, Söder gave a speech at a commemoration. He not only thanked the father of the family, who had protected the children by intervention and had paid for life for this. Other passers -by -also “the perpetrator prosecuted” and would probably have prevented “further attacks on innocent people”, the prime minister explains.
The 30-year-old Somalier now feels the thanks of the prime minister. For an investigating judge in the case of the fatal knife attack by Aschaffenburg, Odowaa made a statement that was recorded on video. According to the public prosecutor, this audiovisual recording could then be used if the witness was no longer available later – for example because he is no longer in Germany.
According to current status, Odowaa will have left the country – even before the trial starts at the Aschaffenburg court. The approaching deportation has caused loud objections: in two petitions the Bavarian authorities are asked to reconsider the decision.
