The ministers of the interior and ministers of the German distribution countries met in Krems (Lower Austria) for two discussions (see video above). They agreed that deportations and the voluntary return to Syria should be forced.
The Minister of the Interior Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) of Austria and his German counterpart Nancy Faeser had completed an unsolved visit to Syria on Sunday and met, among other things, the Minister of the Interior of the Transitional Government. Now the right plans are needed to make deportations of Syrians and the voluntary return possible.
“In the fight against illegal migration and (…) against the tractor Mafia” much has already been achieved, said Karner. In the past week, 19 people were admitted to the Austrian border with Hungary, in March 58 new asylum applications were made by Syrians. This is one of the lowest values of the past 15 years.
Reliefs in bureaucracy
The German Minister of the Interior Faeser spoke for simplified returns, for example through help in bureaucracy. On Tuesday, they and her colleagues mainly spoke about extremism and terrorism. It is important to network and change data, said Karner. In addition to Karner and Faeser, the minister Hubert Büchel (Liechtenstein), Leon Gloden (Luxembourg) and Beat Jans (Switzerland) were there too.
They emphasized that they wanted to implement the asylum and the migration pact “quickly and coordinated” at European level. A close coordination with regard to the regulations in the individual nation states is necessary, Faeser said.
