Franz Schnabl (SPÖ): – “We are different from everyone”

Date:

On 29 January 2023 there will be elections in Lower Austria. The SPÖ wants to score with state issues. “First you choose, then you count, then you negotiate,” said SPÖ top candidate Franz Schnabl in an interview with moderator Tanja Pfaffeneder.

SPÖ state party chairman Schnabl is going to a state election for the second time as his party’s top candidate. The goals are big. The deputy governor wants to assume full responsibility for Lower Austria and replace Johanna Mikl-Leitner, ie become governor herself. A change is particularly important in the country.

Surveys show time and time again that the confidence of the Austrian people in the political system continues to decline. Schnabl can understand the mistrust and sees the many political events of the ÖVP as a problem.

“False promises” in asylum
The red politician has a clear opinion on asylum: “Dublin 3 failed, the distribution mechanism did not work. The Social Democracy is the only party to have proposed a document with concrete solutions in 2018. Law must remain law, anyone who enlists our help must abide by our rules, otherwise he will lose his support.”

However, the ÖVP has overslept due to the developments in the asylum. Schnabl speaks of “false promises” from the head of state. “We have plans that make people’s lives easier.” The SPÖ wants sustainable relief such as price caps instead of one-off payments. In polls you are only 3rd behind the FPÖ.
