The parliament of the Lower Austrian State recently decided to sharpen the measures against radical, Islamist movements. Above all, “unwilling integration” is the target. The consequences of this legislative package go too far to the Islamic religious community in Austria (Iggö).
The new legal rules in Lower Austria offer, among other things, stricter measures against the unwillingness to integrate. In the state parliament they were approved with a lot of ÖVP, FPö and Spö, the stricter obligation to collaborate with parents in the basic pedagogical training in kindergarten was also supported by the Greens and Neos.
“Return of the rule of law”
Tart criticism of the legislative package comes from the Islamic religious community in Austria (Iggö). A broadcast warns of fixed and symbolic policy, Iggö president ümit viral even locates a “step back from the rule of law”. Legally not precisely defined terms such as “disrespectful” and “uninterrupted” would “create a dangerous scope for random interpretations,” the Iggö criticism continues.
Higher fines
Vural sees the higher threat of punishment for parents of kindergarten children as “particularly problematic”. Violations of the obligation to work together – if the compulsory old discussion is refused – can be punished in the future with penalties of up to 2500 euros. This would also affect socially disadvantaged families, according to the Iggö.
Sharp reaction of the ÖVP
Matthias Zauner, stated manager of the ÖVP, responds strongly to criticism of the Islamic religious community. The fact that the IgGö rejects this legislative package is “not understandable,” says Zauner: “We are taking measures against trends that reject our values, threaten our freedom and sow violence.”
“Consequence and clear edge”
Zauner refers to tragic events such as the nurse attack in Villach: “This has shown us all how real this threat is. And it has shown that we cannot come up with good reconciliation.” If dialogue and integration fail, the result and the clear lead are needed, the ÖVP politician emphasizes.
