The former Chancellor of Germany and the Russian lobbyist Gerhard Schröder (SPD) has problems with a bank in his home. The financial institution has blocked all incoming payments that arise from its environment of Russian companies …
The focus is on Sparkasse Hanover – Schröder is known to come from the capital of lower Saxony.
As the newspaper “Bild” reported on Sunday, the German former Chancellor no longer receives money from Russia to his account at his house bank. Schröder was informed and the money was paid too much. The blocking includes transfers from the Gazprom subsidiary Nord Stream 2, for which Schröder works as head of the board of directors.
Every year 400,000 euros flows from Russia from Russia
Schröder, a long -term friend of Kremlin Chief Vladimir Putin, has received around 200,000 euros every six months (400,000 euros per year). Payments would come via Luxembourg and went directly to his account in Hanover. They have not been credited since mid -2024.
Fear of American sanctions as a provisional reason?
The Sparkasse said in writing Schröder that it was “afraid that American sanctions could hit the bank”. Although Schröder himself is not on the list of sanctions and applying sanctions against Nord Stream 2 since 2022, the bank now has consequences.
Green handwriting in Sparkasse management?
A spokesperson for the Sparkasse told “Bild”: “We generally do not give public comments on customer relationships.” The time of the block coincides with a change in the Sparkasse board of directors. A few weeks earlier, the mayor of Hanover Belit Onay (Greens) took over the chair. Onay had publicly asked Schröder in 2022 to do without his honorary doctorate.
At that time he said: “With the eye that Gerhard Schröder is not willing to attract personal consequences from the war in Ukraine, his honorary citizenship is consistent.” Schröder came for the request.
Russian Affairs brought millions of millions
According to the report, Schröder has not taken any legal steps against the Sparkasse so far. Since the end of his term of office as Chancellor in 2005, he would have earned an amount with double digital million with activities for Russian state -owned companies. There are also consultant costs, income from books and speeches, for which he reportedly received up to 70,000 euros per appearance.
