With surprise, the ÖVP listened to the statements of the SPO Social Minister Korinna Schumann on Wednesday on Wednesday. She spoke about an A2 minimum level for German as the basis for entering the labor market. ÖVP Integration Minister Claudia Plakolm clarified: “Work can also be done without German!”
The language level A2 in German means that you have basic knowledge to communicate in simple, everyday situations. One must understand sentences and often used expressions that are associated with direct interest, such as information about the person, family, shopping, work or the environment and simple conversations. All this is particularly desirable in the integration area – however, this is not a condition when it comes to packing me in Austria.
“Unemployment is poison for integration. Work is a place where integration takes place. The current figures show that there are enough open jobs for which you do not need knowledge of the German. Nearly 40,000 jobs were not occupied in production in the first quarter,” says ÖVP -Minister Claudia Plakolm.
Background of her clarification: Spö social minister Korinna Schumann had asked for a minimum level A2 German to enter the labor market on Wednesday. In an inner coalition this is not agreed or intended: “You can also contribute to your side, without knowledge of German. And if you don’t find a job, you must work and make your contribution,” says Plakolm.
“A job is not only useful, but also the best place to learn German in addition to the courses. But if you can live too well from social well -being, you have no incentive to integrate,” said the Minister of Integration.
“Integration is mandatory”
The government decided on Wednesday on Wednesday in the Council of Ministers. It builds on the 3 pillars: German, work, values. It is a central component that asylum seekers get a job. And there are currently enough vacancies, as a look at the Statsiktik shows: in the first quarter of 2025 alone, there were a total of 154,100 vacancies in Austria, 39,800 of them in production, 88,000 in the retail and in the service sector and 26,300 in the public or social sector.
