The delegate of the Spanish Government to the Basque Autonomous Community, Denis Itxasoconsiders that February will be a “key month” for the transfer to Euskadi of the three pending powers (suburban railways, the accreditation of university degrees and the autonomy phase of asylum seekers).
In an interview with Euskadi Irratia, he did not clarify whether the transfer of the three transfers to the Basque government will take place in February, but stressed that they are making “a lot of progress”. He said there is a “climate of trust” between the two governments to do things “right” and ensure transfers are made in accordance with the law and avoid appeals.
The current representative of the Spanish government will resign in the coming weeks heads the PSE-EE list for Gipuzkoa in the next elections for the Basque Parliament.
Eneko Andueza will be the PSE-EE candidate for lehendakari in the elections to the Basque Parliament, and according to Denis Itxaso “it is necessary to provide Euskadi with the leadership style that Eneko represents.” In concrete terms, he believes that ‘private’, ‘modest’ politicians are needed who know how to accept criticism. “There are many things that can be improved in the management of public services and our self-government and there is nothing wrong with an approach like this,” he added.
On the other hand, he has been critical of the Basque government’s administration in the areas of education and health care.
