Two days after the landslide, girl and baby are rescued from the rubble

Date:

A baby and a toddler were rescued more than 48 hours after a landslide in the Philippines. Rescuers dug with their hands through the rubble in the town of Maco and found the two, a provincial disaster officer said.

“It is a great miracle that they were rescued after more than 48 hours.” On Tuesday evening, a landslide buried several houses and three buses containing miners, among others, near a gold mine in Maco.

15 dead, 100 missing
15 people were killed and 31 others were injured. According to local authorities, more than a hundred people are still missing. This number is based on reports from residents looking for relatives. Maco is located almost 1000 kilometers southeast of the capital Manila.

The landslide was preceded by heavy rainfall caused by the northeast monsoon and a low-pressure area. There have been floods and landslides since the end of January. Nearly 400,000 people had to leave their homes.
