Former ÖVP -Minister Susanne Raab was able to secure a top post in an international agency. Just like in her time in the federal government of Austria, the 40-year-old lawyer will continue to treat the subject of migration.
In December 2024, Raab had already applied for the successor to EX-Oövp leader Michael Spindelegger as general director of the International Center for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD). Shortly thereafter she announced her departure from federal politics – the “Kroon” reported.
More than 70 applications
The evaluation has been active since then. On Thursday, the last election of the representatives of the Member States of the agency of more than 70 applicants fell to the resident of Upper Austria.
The staff was decided in Stockholm and Sweden was chaired by the application for the application. Other former ministers from other countries were also found among the applications.
The ICMPD, with head office in Vienna, was founded in 1993 and has 21 Member States. The organization is active in more than 90 countries, has networks and develops migration -political strategies. In practice, the agency strives for the “structure of operational capacities”.
Susanne Raab is considered the confidant of the ex-federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer, who is now also eliminated from politics. As her political inventor, former Chancellor Sebastian Kurz is seen, around whom comeback rumors are still ranking.
Nehammer has now been nominated by the established Minister of Finance Markus Marterbauer (Spö) for a board of directors at the European Investment Bank and is known as an entrepreneur.
Europe’s migration in Austrian hands
The migration agents in Europe now have fully in Austrian hands or in those of the People’s Party-with Magnus Brunner, another former ÖVP minister of the EU Commissioner for the Internal and Migration has become the ICMPD leader.
