Vice Chancellor Andreas Babler has announced that he wanted to propose a negotiating place in conversation with Wolodyymyr Senskyj. The Republic would be an ideal ground for future peace talks.
The Vice Chancellor wanted to submit this proposal to the Ukrainian president on Monday during a job interview in Vienna. The Spö -politician therefore emphasized that Austria has been in solidarity since the beginning of the Russian agency war and his responsibility on the side of Ukraine. This includes humanitarian support.
Babler wants to build on “tradition”
“As a neutral country, Austria would be a very suitable location for peace talks between Russia and Ukraine,” Babler emphasized. “Because we are convinced that everything that contributes to strengthening mutual trust must be done. Vienna has a long tradition on which we have to build as the seat of the United Nations.”
Representatives of Russia and Ukraine recently met in Turkey several times. The exchanges of prisoners were agreed. Senskyj recently mentioned Turkey, the Vatican and Switzerland as possible locations for concrete peace negotiations. “We are ready for every size,” he had emphasized for journalists. Ukraine has defended itself against the Russian invasion since February 2022. Russia currently checks around 20 percent of the entire Ukrainian area.
Austria wants to help with the reconstruction
Babler also emphasized that the reconstruction of Ukraine “for a few was not only a company, but also had to happen to social and sustainable”, “so that as many people in Ukraine benefit from reconstruction”. In this context, a reinforcement of the rule of law is central to the Vice Chancellor. According to the broadcast, he welcomes a legally enclosed use of frozen Russian assets to rebuild Ukraine.
The costs for the reconstruction of Ukraine are estimated at 500 billion euros. The economy must also help. More than 200 Austrian companies continue to work directly in Ukraine.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Austria has mobilized around 327 million euros in state, financial and humanitarian aid for Ukraine and the particularly affected neighboring countries since the start of the war. In addition, support services of the Austrian federal states, private initiatives and from Austrian companies, as well as other services that Ukraine receives about the Austrian share of EU support.
The Ministry of Culture also supports Ukrainian artists with a trade fair program of three million euros for their artistic work in Austria. To strengthen cooperation, a work program was recently signed with specific project proposals for the cultural sector, as it was said.
