“Political Behind” – Why Brunner Libya really had to leave

It was a delicate visit – and that was aware of all involved. When EU migration commissioner Magnus Brunner traveled to Libya together with ministers from Italy, Greece and Malta, this should be a signal: Europe is present, able to act, diplomatically coordinated. In Tripolis, at the internationally recognized Prime Minister, the conversations were calm, albeit without a specific breakthrough. But then Bengasi came.

There, in the field of space of General Khalifa Haftar, the situation escalated. Two ministers from Haftar’s controversial parallel government seemed unannounced on the Rollerveld – apparently with the aim of being received in the media. A photo that the EU could not allow.
