74 Access in May – Asylum: Extreme decrease in family reunification

The enormous decline is mainly attributed to the fact that applications from Syrian citizens have only been processed in exceptional cases since the political revolution in Damascus.

More than 300 Syrians have been abandoned Austria since the beginning of the year. According to the Ministry of the Interior, this is more together than in 2023 and 2024. 58 people with Syrian origin were then taken to the responsible European country.

Asylum applications were 1443 in May. According to January, this is the second highest monthly value, but a decrease of 42 percent compared to the comparison month in 2024. In total, the figures fell by 36 percent in the first five months.

At the end of May a good 1400 asylum applications

• The strongest asylum seekers group were Afghans with 513 searches in May. Only 223 of them were new, the remaining follows -Up applications. This influences people who have all the right to protect the subsidiary, but now try again.

• 117 new applications came from Syrians, a total of 341. The majority of applications meet their children born in Austria.

• In the EU (Plus Norway and Switzerland) there were 22 percent less looking for 332,655 asylum applications until the end of May with 332,655 than in the previous year. Extrapolated to the population, Austria is in tenth place in Europe -wide statistics.

FPö: “Minister of the Interior has been late for years”
Criticism comes from the FPö. The figures from the Ministry of the Interior would “rely on an” exclusively deferred family judge, while the illegal immigrants in the country are pouring our system, “said spokesperson Gernot Darmann.
