Saturday there was a stir at the 800th anniversary in Eferding! Because when Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen and Governor Thomas Stelzer drove into the village square, there was loud cheering and whistling.
800 years ago, on July 14, 1222, Eferding received city rights, making it the third oldest city in Austria. On this occasion, a four-day anniversary celebration took place. The weather was beautiful and so was the mood of most of the participants. A group of opponents of corona measures and vaccination skeptics who had apparently traveled from abroad caused a stir on Saturday.
When Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen and Governor Thomas Stelzer drove into the village square, there was a loud flute concert. The atmosphere was reminiscent of aggressive football hooligans. “It was inappropriate and disrespectful. However, I’m proud of how our Eferdingers reacted to it,” said Mayor Christian Penn (SPÖ).
“Sad and embarrassing”
Apparently the locals didn’t want to let these people disturb their anniversary and the political guests gave loud applause. Penn: “At the time, this was often even louder than the critics’ whistling.” However, on social media, Eferdinger expressed his outrage at the troublemakers: “Sad and embarrassing!”
