The PSOE represents a new phase of change. The resignation of Adriana Lastra as the PSOE’s number two, due to personal reasons due to a risky pregnancy, has taken a large part of the party by surprise, who has been forced to move chips with this power vacuum. Another appointment confirmed today is that of the Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Pillar Joy, who will become the new PSOE spokesperson to replace Deputy Felipe Sicilia. De Zaragozan, who has also thanked the President of the Spanish government for his confidence, will combine her work as a spokesman with that of a minister.
For its part, the secretary of the organization of the PSOE, the Navarrese Santos Cerdanwill remain in his position, despite some voices in the party taking his departure for granted following Lastra’s resignation and noting internal tensions between the two.
Sánchez has taken the opportunity to tackle sweeping changes that will affect not only the federal government of the PSOE, but also the parliamentary factions in the Congress of Deputies and the Senate. The unknown about which positions will be changed and which specific people will take on new responsibilities will be revealed next Saturday at the extraordinary Federal Committee that will ratify all changes.
