Visit to the problem spot? – Selenskyj: Nehammer “in the near future” in Kiev

Date:

After a telephone conversation with Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP), Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced that the Austrian head of government would visit Ukraine “in the near future”. Zelenskyj explained this in a video message to the Ukrainian population, which was published on Tuesday evening.

Ukraine will make every effort to identify and punish all Russian soldiers involved in crimes as soon as possible, together with the European Union and international institutions, especially the International Criminal Court, the Ukrainian head of state said in his video. He spoke in particular about the cities of Stoyanka, Irpin and Bucha in the Kiev region.

He discussed these questions on Monday with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. “And also with the Austrian Chancellor Nehammer. We have agreed that he will visit Ukraine in the near future,” said Zelenskyy. Confirmation for Nehammer’s trip to Ukraine was initially not available from the Austrian side on Tuesday evening.

The president had posted on Twitter late Monday about his phone conversation with Nehammer. Zelenskyy explained that he informed the chancellor about the course of the defensive struggle against the aggression of the Russian Federation and about the serious crimes committed by the occupier in the Kiev region. “I thank Austria for supporting our state,” he concluded.
