In the Vorarlberg Economic Association there has been a “generous approach to the association’s business conduct” recently. This was the result of the special audit of the Vorarlberg Economic Association by the audit company BDO Austria.
However, the income and expenses have been made in accordance with the statutes, it said at a press conference on Tuesday. The business association once again rejected the allegation of illegal party financing. The Wirtschaftsbund Vorarlberg, as a sub-organization of the party, has transferred about 513,000 euros to the Vorarlberger ÖVP in the period from 2016 to 2021, plus 207,000 euros in payments to various local groups of the ÖVP.
EUR 72,000 was spent on election costs. As for financial generosity, the retired director of the Wirtschaftsbund, Jürgen Kessler, was at the center of the investigation. Between 2016 and 2021, he received a gross salary of 780,000 euros, among other things. Between 2018 and 2021, 646,000 euros was paid to 3L consult GmbH (formerly kessler consult GmbH), whose sole shareholder is Jürgen Kessler, for the brokerage of advertising revenue.
„Zero report with little relevance“
“Today’s presentation only confirmed what is already known to everyone. Here too, the ÖVP follows the strategy of admitting only what can no longer be hidden from the public,” said SPÖ MP Manuela Auer. The social democrat criticizes that the results of the research are therefore only null reports with little political relevance.
