Russian Ambassador Dimitrij Ljubinskij was summoned to the Foreign Ministry on Monday evening for the fourth time in a few weeks over “reports of the horrific war crimes” in Ukraine. “Austria condemns these acts as war crimes in the strongest possible terms,” the foreign ministry said on Tuesday after Ljubinsky’s talks with Secretary-General Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal. The ambassador then wrote on Facebook about a “criminal staging of the Ukrainian mercenaries in Bucha”.
In light of the reports of “atrocities against innocent civilians from Bucha, Irpin and other Ukrainian cities, he was told that all these incidents should be fully investigated and those responsible held accountable”. The diplomat was informed of Austria’s expectation that Russia would fully cooperate with the Vienna-based UN International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine and also support the recommendations of the OSCE Expert Mission as part of the Moscow Mechanism to to fully clarify these incidents.
In addition, Ljubinsky was “repeatedly and emphatically conveyed Austria’s demand for an immediate end to the military aggression and horror by the Russian Federation.” The ambassador was also informed “that the continued violence will result in further huge, painful consequences for the EU and its partners”.
