Various media outlets have reported in recent days that the ÖVP is internally cutting the chair of Chancellor Karl Nehammer. The Chancellery had become lonely around Nehammer because of bad polls. The compensation should come after the Tyrolean state elections.
ÖVP-EU minister Karoline Edtstadler or finance minister Magnus Brunner are brought into play as successor candidates.
ÖVP grande: Nehammer “not in danger”
However, this vote cannot be understood after a call to the relevant ÖVP representatives and also in some state party headquarters. “If he doesn’t throw in the towel, he’s safe,” said a ÖVP grandee from Lower Austria.
