Continued support – Nehammer on transfer rumours: “summer slump”

Date:

Due to the poor poll numbers, ÖVP strategists would work on the fall of a chancellor. Lower Austria and Salzburg, however, declined.

Various media outlets have reported in recent days that the ÖVP is internally cutting the chair of Chancellor Karl Nehammer. The Chancellery had become lonely around Nehammer because of bad polls. The compensation should come after the Tyrolean state elections.

ÖVP-EU minister Karoline Edtstadler or finance minister Magnus Brunner are brought into play as successor candidates.

ÖVP grande: Nehammer “not in danger”
However, this vote cannot be understood after a call to the relevant ÖVP representatives and also in some state party headquarters. “If he doesn’t throw in the towel, he’s safe,” said a ÖVP grandee from Lower Austria. Johanna Mikl-Leitner and also the governor of Salzburg, Wilfried Haslauer, support Nehammer in the “Krone” conversation.

It would be the third chancellor change
“That’s wishful thinking on the part of the opposition,” says Mikl-Leitner’s office. It would also be difficult to argue within the party to remove the chairman after a few weeks. Nehammer himself described the discussion as a “summer crisis debate”.

In addition, the Greens would then have to accept the third ÖVP change of chancellor. Moreover, there are no dissonances between Nehammer and Vice-Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens).
