The SPÖ fears that 2,255 municipal apartments could be sold to speculators after the elections. According to Rainer Spenger, SPÖ deputy mayor of Wiener Neustadt, 300 apartments are currently not being communicated at all. FPÖ city councilor Michael Schnedlitz: “It’s all wrong” and explains the actual situation.
According to Spenger, of the more than 2,000 municipal apartments in Wiener Neustadt, 300 are empty or are deliberately not allocated. Why? “Apparently there is no money for the renovation,” said the deputy mayor. The real background for him: ‘There will probably be plans to sell all 2,255 municipal apartments to investors and speculators after the elections.’ For Spenger, these municipal apartments are the only way a municipality can guarantee reasonably moderate rents. His wish: “A total renovation instead of sale.”
Apartments are being delivered continuously
FPÖ city councilor Michael Schnedlitz about these accusations: “Of the 300 apartments, there are 166 that we are consciously not renovating at the moment.” Why? “For example, this concerns apartments that have a toilet in the hallway and ten households would have to share this. It is not worth renovating here because there are no water connections,” Schnedlitz explains.
The other apartments are in a normal flow process. This means that they are constantly being renovated and moved. “We passed on four this week alone,” Schnedlitz emphasizes.
There is no shortage of money for renovation work. ‘Last year we invested more than two million in the renovation and maintenance of these apartments.’ ‘It’s all lies’ – no sale planned either.
“Anyone who says that is telling an untruth.”
“The FPÖ in particular has been a guarantee over the past ten years that something like this will not happen,” Schnedlitz said. And what do you do with the 166 apartments that are not worth renovating? “By all means, pick it up. If the pool of apartments does become smaller, we can still consider renovating them,” says the Party for Freedom.
