The ERC’s spokesperson to date, Raquel Sans, its number two in Congress, Teresa Jordà, and several mayors are among those who have presented their candidacies with the aim of “returning to the essence of Esquerra Republicana”.
‘Nova Esquerra Nacional’, the candidacy that ERC wants to lead as an alternative to that of former party leader Oriol Junqueras, presented its programme on Thursday at an event in Barcelona.
The new candidacy aims to “return to the essence of Esquerra Republicana, to the ideological principles and values” that underlie the formation. This was stated by the spokesmen of ‘Nova Esquerra Nacional’ in their first act.
Among those present are the ERC spokesperson until now, Raquel Sans; the former councillor, Teresa Jordà; the mayor of Manresa (Barcelona), Marc Aloy; the former deputy in parliament, Alba Camps; and the former mayor of Vilassar de Dalt (Barcelona), Xavier Godàs.
The mayor of Manresa has said that the loss of citizen confidence can only be reversed with “renewed leadership” that can provide rigorous, constructive and necessary criticism of what needs to be improved.
