FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl goes on the attack: he calls on the internal, anonymous critics to confess openly. And he attacks the media.
It’s never been so tight for Herbert Kickl. “There will have to be clarity. The central question is: did Herbert Kickl consciously tolerate the methods of Hans-Jörg Jenewein?” says a well-known FPÖ politician. As a reminder, telephone conversations with members of the PVV were recorded on Jenewein’s mobile phone and two computer files, and anonymous reports against party members were found. In total, 13 liberal Viennese politicians have been indicted for the allegations made by Jenewein’s computer.
Kickl wanted the Vienna State Party under his influence
The reason for these methods: Vienna and Upper Austria are the two most powerful state parties within the FPÖ. The two make up about 40 percent of the delegates. One of the two national organizations wanted to bring Kickl under his influence. He had no chance in Upper Austria, so Kickl set his sights on Vienna. Jenewein’s sister Dagmar Belakowitsch should have taken over Vienna.
When the methods were now discovered, Kickl distanced himself from Jenewein (see quote above) and put him on furlough. The tragedy that followed is well known. Meanwhile, Kickl attacks the media on Facebook, saying they are “blatantly taking advantage of Jenewein’s suffering”. Kickl Tacheles should be spoken to at a presidency meeting now. It is not yet certain whether the FPÖ party conference will also be postponed in mid-September.
Hardly anyone believes Kickl knew nothing about Jenewein’s tricks. Because even when the FPÖ leader was interior minister, no one with electronic devices was allowed to enter the minister’s office. “As the villain thinks, so is he,” says an official.
The others who are not part of Kickl’s fanbase are on the water. Their strategy is clear: there’s no need for regicide – hopefully the data on Jenewein’s cell phone will sort it out on its own.
The question is whether this calculation of sitting in the waiting room will work. Because Kickl is aggressive and asked his critics by name, “Why don’t all these people stick to their claims?”
