Now also “Schuhrebell” – list is getting longer: more than 20 Hofburg applicants

Date:

The list of candidates for the office of Federal President has been longer since Saturday. The Waldviertel shoe manufacturer Heini Staudinger also wants to participate in the elections on 9 October. All applicants must have collected 6,000 statements of support by September 2 to be eligible to participate.

The 69-year-old entrepreneur Staudinger also became known as a “shoe rebel” due to a public conflict with the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (FMA) for his own company and for private financing models (“crowdfunding”) in general.

“The attempt is resolved”
A website is scheduled to go online early Sunday morning, said Christine Bauer-Jelinek, who is coordinating the campaign. “I’m not sure I will. But the attempt has been resolved,” said Staudinger, head of Gea and Waldviertler’s workshops in Schrems (Gmünd district) in Lower Austria, according to a “NÖN” report.

Just over 20 applicants so far
So far, just over 20 people have expressed an interest in applying. Everyone has until Monday 2 September to collect statements of support. The deadline for submitting nominations ends at 5 p.m. – and therefore also for submitting a minimum of 6,000 signatures. However, there is still the possibility of a grace period, which will likely end on September 6 (midnight) – the electoral authority will only determine the details.

Who can do it?
Incumbent Alexander Van der Bellen and FPÖ candidate Walter Rosenkranz are likely to overcome this hurdle easily, with a few other candidates willing to stand a good chance. In this way, MFG boss Michael Brunner can gain access to an existing network. Ex-FPÖ and BZÖ politician Gerald Grosz hopes for his followers on social media. And “Turbobier” singer Dominik Wlazny (aka “Marco Pogo”) has been on the ballot with his beer party in previous elections. “Krone” columnist Tassilo Wallentin’s application is also on hold (his column in “Krone bunt” was last published on Sunday).

Lone Fighters Compete for Online Support
The first hurdle on the way to the Hofburg is much more difficult for lesser-known lone warriors or applicants for smaller initiatives who cannot rely on a network. 15 of them are currently campaigning for signatures via social media and websites – Helga Egger, Mark Hanno Fessl, Franz Gollowitsch, Konstantin Haslauer, Oliver Hoffmann, Rudolf Remigius Kleinschnitz, Gerhard Kuchta, Robert Marschall, Wolfgang Ottowitz, David Packer, Barbara Rieger, Thomas Schaurecker, Johann Peter Schutte, Hubert Thurnhofer, Anatoly Volk.

In 2016 there were six candidates on the ballot
In addition to the current incumbent Van der Bellen, Norbert Hofer, Rudolf Hundstorfer, Andreas Khol, Irmgard Griss and Richard Lugner were also on the ballot in the 2016 presidential election. They all managed to convince enough voters to go to town hall and issue their certified statement of support. to give.
