Defends government – Kogler: “The Greens are where they belong”

Date:

Vice-chancellor and leader of the Greens Werner Kogler on Tuesday defended his party’s work in the federal government. “The results are something to be proud of. The Greens are where they belong – with responsibility,” emphasized Kogler in the ORF “Summer Talk”. Much has been achieved, “but not everything yet”. He referred to successes in climate and energy policy. At the same time, he defended the measures against the current inflation.

Most recently, Kogler tackled the topic of energy company profits. He advocated taxing the excess profits. After all, the energy companies are raking in profits like never before during the crisis. The proposal has been circulating for some time. Even ÖVP Chancellor Karl Nehammer brought him into play. The SPÖ is permanent anyway.

“Energy companies must make a contribution”
Kogler said the government is currently working on a similar model. He immersed himself in his thoughts: “Energy companies must make a social and ecological contribution.”

It involves a smart and tax-legally feasible model of how excess profits or accidental profits of energy companies can be taxed. This should have an ecological effect, ie “reinvestments in renewable energy expansion should be deducted from the profit figure.”
