A demonstration, mentioned by comparisons of Bilbao and Sare Herritarrawill tour the streets of the capital of Biscay on the 26th, the great day of its festivities, demanding the transfer of ETA prisoners to Basque prisons and that they be subject to “the same conditions” as the rest of the prisoners in the granting of licenses or third degree.

The march starts at 1:00 PM from the Plaza Elíptica in Bilbao with the motto “Etxera bidea gertu!” (near the way home). As explained in their presentation by the spokespersons of the conventions Iratxe Ugalde and Iñigo Sáez de Lafuente, the mobilization for prisoners’ rights, usually held in Aste Nagusia in Bilbao, has been re-organised because “there is still much to do to normalize the situation of the prisoners and the refugees”.

While they have acknowledged that “significant steps have been taken to end exceptional measures” in recent years, they have warned that “not all of them have disappeared”. “We have left the first degree, isolation and the most remote prisons behind us. But there are still 58 prisoners in prisons in Spain and France” they denounced.

For this reason, next week’s march will claim that all prisoners “should be” in prisons in Euskal Herria“because, as they have pointed out, “it is the most important step to end the suffering of family and friends.”

On the other hand they have censored that “many prisoners and many prisoners”and they are denied licenses and the third degree despite meeting all the requirements to access it”. In this sense, they have claimed that “they can follow the path that suits them without obstacles and without additional requirements, in accordance with the provisions of the current legislation”.

In this way, they have insisted that “the requests that do not respect the law disappear and that the same conditions are applied to them” as to the rest of the prisoners. They have also demanded that “progress be made in resolving the cases of refugees and deportees”.
