Bautista is unforgiving and meets with Nadal’s executioner

Date:

Roberto Bautista, world number 19, defeated American Marcos Giron (n.54) 6-3, 6-3 on Wednesday and he qualified for the round of 16 of the Cincinnati Masters 1,000, where he will face Croatian Borna Coric, Rafa Nadal’s executioner.

Bautista, this year’s champion in Doha and Kitzbuhel, reaffirmed the victory he won against Giron last week in Montreal.

The 34-year-old player from Castellón advanced after a game of one hour and 17 minutesafter a battle of more than two and a half hours won two days ago against Argentine Francisco Cerundolo.

He played a very solid match on Wednesday, nullifying the only break point awarded to Girón and breaking his rival’s serve three times, once in the first set and twice in the second.

Bautista will try to take advantage of the elimination of Rafa Nadal, which surprised Croatian Borna Coric, number 152 in the world and former number 12.

Nadal returned to compete in Cincinnati five years after the last time and did so after withdrawing from the Wimbledon tournament on July 6 due to an abdominal injury. Mallorca was the champion of this tournament in 2013.
