The CAC Beniaján player won the national title in two modalities

Eduardo Iturrizaga, a player of the Beniaján Casino Chess Club, was declared the double Spanish chess champion for the second time in a row. In 2021 he did it in fast and classic mode, while this weekend he did it in blitz (lightning) and classic chess.

The player of the Murcian club won the classic chess title last Thursday, in Linares, where Daniil Yuffa (signed by Beniaján for this season) came in second. Both Iturrizaga and Yuffa repeated positions in Mengíbar, the next day, in the Spanish Blitz Chess Championship (Lightning), which consists of games with three minutes time and an increase of two seconds per move. In Mengíbar, Murcian GM José Carlos Ibarra also took part, finishing in ninth place.

Finally, he returned to Linares on Saturday to play the Spanish Rapid Chess Championship. Iturrizaga, Yuffa and Ibarra started on the favorites train, but Jaime Santos, of the club Magic de Extremadura, eventually won the title. Iturrizaga was fourth, Ibarra was tenth and Yuffa was eleventh.

The national champion was “happy and satisfied” with the course of the tournaments on his return to Madrid, where he lives: “I had chances to win the ‘triple crown’, but it didn’t happen in the end. There was a high level in the tournament and I am proud to have reconfirmed the classic title and won the blitz».

The next target is the Division of Honor team championship, where CAC Beniaján will try to win the tournament for the second year in a row: “Soon it will be time to return to Linares to play a great part in the Division of Honor. honor. I think we have a super competitive team and we are going to do everything we can to bring the title to the Murcia region. It will be difficult because there are very good teams, but we have a very compact block.”
