Armagh captain Kelly Malone fights for promotion with Keri

Date:

Armagh captain Kelly Malone announced he is ready Sunday night for the Liddell National League Two Final against Kerry.

Malone is yet to make an appearance for his country this year, having broken his fibula during one of the club’s shifts in October last year, making his comeback complicated with an Achilles tendon injury.

After getting ahead in line this weekend, he said, “I’m leaving, but whether I’m used to it or not is beyond my control.

“I just came back with a fibula fracture and started to move there, and only then did the Achilles explode.

“Obviously I only had a little time for a few weeks, I was really disappointed, but now I feel more positive that I’m back again.”

The talented Malone says that football is his first love, and until he admits that his camouflaging days will be over, he will continue to play street bowls.

A prolific bowler, she is the most well-deserved player in the history of the sport.

He is fighting for his 10th Irish title this year, but has also had international success, winning the European title and the prestigious Queen of the Road against competitors from Italy, Germany and the Netherlands.

“Football, this is my first sport, my first love. So winning something, especially as a captain, would probably mean something more.

“I love both elements. I love this individual responsibility, me and the rest of the team, my dad and everyone else leading the way and other things, but it’s up to me and I love that element.

“But obviously the team environment is not as noisy as being in the dressing room.”
