Rafael Carrascoformer Kelme team director, reviews the keys to the third stage of the Vuelta a España.
1. STAGE VERY SIMILAR TO PREVIOUS DAY
This is a very fast stage, as expected. As expected, just like the day before Sam Bennett won again. He had a breakaway and several falls, including that of Richard Carapaz. Fortunately, he was able to continue in vain. Runners complained about the danger of the route. It’s fair.
2. FAVORITES WAIT THEIR TIME
Favorites are enough not to fall and not to be cut. They just tried to get in good shape, without injury or damage. Carapaz had some bad luck, but finished well after his fall. Others are already in the platoon, awaiting arrival in Spain.
3. PRESENCE OF SPANISH IN STRENGTHENING
There were four Spaniards in the breakaway, José Herrada, Ander Okamika, Pau Miquel and Mikel Iturria. They tried, but they did not reach the goal. Others are in groups, with caution in the waterfall. Valverde and Landa commented that they were scared because the route was dangerous.
4. HARD AFTER STAGE
It’s time to think about moving, almost a thousand kilometers, to Spain. Tomorrow we have to be in Vitoria. The ride is as difficult or more than a stage for cyclists. Especially for mechanics, masseuses… who travel in cars with all the material. There is a desire to get to Spain and start another career.
5. TUESDAY, DAY TO BE CONSIDERED
Tuesday’s phase already has a second category port and a third category port. It completely changes the route. The sports environment will be more exciting for Spanish runners. This is a stage that will change the way runners approach the race. Staying in the Netherlands, with many people on the roads following the race, has been a success for the organization.
