Dele Alli has begun another phase of his decadent career in an attempt to recapture the level that led him to become one of Tottenham’s most decisive players. Turkish Besiktas are the new destination for the 26-year-old English midfielder, after being loaned by Everton with an option to buy until June 2023.
Alli arrived at Tottenham in 2015 and remained in their squad until January 2022 when he joined Everton on a contract free transfer. However, he did not get a start in Frank Lampard’s team, as he appeared in just 13 league games without scoring or providing a single assist, and even lost his place in the England team. In fact, he hasn’t played an international game since 2019.
Everton avoided relegation on the penultimate day of the Premier League and Lampard agreed to loan him to Besiktas, who finished a disappointing sixth in the Turkish Super League and, under the guidance of French coach Valérien Ismaël, were trying to get back to the level that led him to win the double in 2021.
