Audi confirms its arrival in Formula 1

The German team Audi announced this Fridayon the eve of the Belgian Grand Prix, which will join the Formula 1 paddock from 2026year in which the regulations on power unit cycles will again change, as approved by the FIA ​​last week.

With the inclusion of Audi in the great circus of Formula 1, the Volkswagen Group is taking the first step in its entry into the top category of motorsport, and will do it twice, as its sister brand Porsche will also enter the grid in 2026 thanks to the partnership with the Austrian team Red Bullwhile Audi could do the same to Sauber, which currently competes under the Alfa Romeo name.

At Audi they plan to start developing their new power units at their headquarters in Neuburg (Germany)and will feature Adam Baker, FIA Director of Safety for the last three seasons as the supervisory lead for the entire project, also drawing on his experience with the BMW team from 2005 until his departure from F1 in 2009.

The president of Audi, Markus Duesmann, assured after the news was released that “motorsport is an important part of Audi’s DNA”and defined the current Formula 1 as “a global stage” for the brand, and as “a highly challenging development laboratory”.

“With the new rules, now is the right time to enter. Eventually, Formula 1 and Audi promote clear sustainability goals”, Duesmann admitted.

For his part, the director of F1, Stefano Domenicali, also positively appreciated the announcement of Audi: “I am delighted to welcome Audi to Formula 1an iconic, pioneering and technologically innovative automotive brand”.
