Trump’s golf course in New York will host a tournament supported by Saudi Arabia

Date:

A New York golf course run by Donald Trump’s company will host a women’s tournament in October supported by Saudi Arabia, according to local media reports.

The tournament is part of the Aramco Team Series, closely linked to the network of Saudi state-owned companiesas well as LIV Golf, a similar initiative on the men’s circuit that aims to rival the traditional PGA Tour.

According to The New York Times, the New York City Council -which owns the golf course-has given the green light to the tournament considering he had no basis to veto it under the contract he has with the Trump Organization, which manages it.

New York City broke its contract with Trump’s company after the Capitol attack in January 2021but a judge found his actions irregular, so the company remains in charge of the facility.

Another former president’s golf course, located in nearby New Jersey, has already hosted another Saudi Arabian-funded tournament this summer, in this case as part of LIV Golf, which has drawn criticism for on the Arab nation’s human rights record.
