The Honda Racing team officially announced on Tuesday the signing of Joan Mir. The 24-year-old will replace Pol Espargaró as Marc Márquez’s teammate for the next two seasons after his time with the Suzuki team.
The MotoGP world champion in 2020 will be sidelined for the next Misano race after discovering ligament damage in his right ankle as suspected after his downfall in Austria. After a new analysis, it will be decided if he can run on September 18 at the Aragón GP.
Joan Mir has established himself as a world-class talent since his first full season in Moto3 in 2016. In 2017, he lifted the small class crown on a Honda before moving up to the intermediate class the following year.
In addition to the two World Championships, The Balearic rider achieved 12 Grand Prix wins and 33 podiums.
