The Irish Football Association has confirmed that Glentoran wants to sack the Irish Cup referee over the Joe Crewe power issue.
As a result, the second semi-final match of the season, between Balimina United and New York City, on Wednesday, April 13, will not proceed as originally planned.
Newry was reinstated after losing 1–0 to Glentoran in the quarter-finals after it was revealed that Crowe was ineligible to play in the match. The Oval Club was subsequently expelled from the competition.
The IFA Appeals Board on Friday rejected Glentoran’s appeal and the East Belfast club has now decided to consider arbitration.
The Football Association of Ireland said in a statement posted on its website: “The Irish Football Association can confirm that it has received an arbitration appeal from Glentoran Football Club today.
The appeal comes after the Irish FA’s Appeals Board rejected Glentoran’s appeal against the FA Challenge Cup decision, agreeing to a protest lodged by Newry City Football Club.
“This means that the second semi-final match of the Irish Samuel Gilston Whiskey Cup (New City / Glentoran – Balimina United) will not take place on Wednesday, April 13, as tentatively scheduled.
The Irish Football Association will announce the semi-final match up front when the refereeing dates are set.
Ballymena United wrote on Twitter: “FA Irish He assured us of the Irish Cup semi-finals against New York City The following Wednesday night is off.
“Then he knew it Request for arbitration. We don’t have details of any redesigned games.
The Crusaders, who beat Cliftonville 2-1 in the Round of 16 last Friday, anticipate the winners of the show’s second semifinal, scheduled for Saturday, May 7.
