The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced this Thursday the beginning of the process requested by the Colombian Nairo Quintana against International Cycling Union (UCI)who appealed before this time his recent disqualification from Tour de France for the alleged use of a prohibited substance.
The Lausanne court said it had received Quintana’s appeal on August 17 and declared that the arbitration process had begun, which would create a panel of judges to study the dispute with the UCI, which would include hearings on parties involved.
Quintana, from Arkea Samsic, resigned from participating in the Vuelta a España to defend his case before the TAS, after learning of his disqualification from the 2022 Tour de France for violating the ban on the use of tramadol, a powerful pain reliever banned from competition since March 1, 2019.
After the UCI sanction, Quintana only had ten days to appeal it, which affected his preparations for the Vuelta.
