Spanish party in Moto2

Historic victory for Alonso López in a race in which the Spanish drivers won the first four positions

When the championship started rolling at the Qatar circuit in March, Alonso López was not in the traditional first-class day photo on the Moto2 grid. The man from Madrid had to watch that inaugural race from the couch at home. As he would with the next five, while he waited for an opportunity. This one has arrived at Le Mans. A phone call from Luca Boscoscuro’s team restored him to the cause and López more than restored their confidence. Since rejoining the championship, he has always been at the front and has already won a couple of Grands Prix at Silverstone. And finally the glory came in Misano. “If they tell me five months ago that this was going to happen…”, was López’s first reaction after his victory. If the points scored by all drivers since López returned to the championship at Le Mans are added together, he would have been classified third.

The rider from Madrid took the lead in the race from the start and led from start to finish without making a single mistake. Behind was the emotion in the battle for the podium. First between Canet and Arenas, which Augusto Fernández joined later. It was an unforgettable Sunday for Spanish motorcycling. Alonso López’s victory put the icing on the podium where only the national flag flew, while Arón Canet and Augusto Fernández accompanied the man from Madrid. And the festival was completed by Albert Arenas in fourth, Pedro Acosta in sixth and Jeremy Alcoba in tenth.

The ranking of the intermediate category changes again. Augusto Fernández regains that first position, four points ahead of Japan’s Ai Ogura. And with the fall in the race of the Italian Celestino Vietti, there is already a gap behind. Arón Canet moves up one position and is third.
