The eight US Open men’s quarterfinalists have one thing in common: none of them have won a Grand Slam tournament.
For the third consecutive edition, the winner at Flushing Meadows will join the list of players with ‘big’ on his resume as a rookie. In 2020 it was done by the Austrian Dominic Thiem and in 2022 by the Russian Daniil Medvedev.
Thiem has not won any other tournament since then, after a serious wrist injury, and Medvedev only one, the ATP 250 in Los Cabos (Mexico) last August.
Among the eight quarterfinalists, the one with the best ranking is Carlos Alcaraz, who came into the tournament fourth in the world and is now almost second. And there are options to be number one.
Alcaraz is also the youngest, at age 19, followed by his rival in the quarterfinals, the Italian Jannik Sinner, who was 21.
The oldest is Australian Nick Kyrgios, 27 years old.
Russian Andrey Rublev is, among them all, the one who has won the most titles, eleven. But Alcaraz, however, is the one who signed up for the most tournaments this year, four: Rio, Miami, Barcelona and Madrid.
