Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp could not explain why his side’s 4-1 defeat at Napoli was one of the worst in his side’s Champions League history, saying he needed time to come to terms with it.
“It is very difficult to accept this. If you saw the game it was easy to see that they started with two penalties in their favor and Napoli played a great game and we didn’t. That was the first explanation for the defeat,” the German told the BT Sport channel.
“Everything is obvious, but why did it happen? I can’t answer you now. Let me think about it and I’ll tell you. Right now it’s hard to accept.”
“They scored a penalty against us and missed another, but the next two goals delivered them on a plate. We should have defended better. At 3-0 we had chances, but we were never in the game. Until Thiago entered the field, I don’t remember a pressure that was good,” said Klopp.
