Diego Schwartzman did not beat Mikael Ymer or prevent Argentina from losing against Sweden, in the first match of Group A of the Davis Cup that will take place at Unipol in Bologna (Italy).
The Buenos Aires tennis player, ranked seventeenth in the world, dropped the doubles 6-2 against the youngest of the Ymer brothers, 98 in the ATP ranking, needing just one hour and 38 minutes to complete the second game of the rivalry.
Schwartzman was indistinct from the start of the clash against an opponent who usually offers good Davis Cup performances.
The Ymer brothers, in the absence of a doubles duel, gave Sweden their first victory over Argentina in a group completed by Italy and Croatia.
Mikael’s victory came after his brother Elias won his match against Sebastián Báez, who was unable to round off the reaction he starred in the second set or achieve a comeback.
Elias Ymer who won 6-4, 3-6 and 7-6 (4). Despite the distance between the two in the ranking, the eldest of the Ymer brothers showed his best version and closed the match after two and a half hours after regaining dominance in the third and final heat.
The Argentine, ranked 37th in the ATP rankings, saved four match points before a tie break in the third set, where he lost to the Swede, ranked 119th in the world.
Next, Máximo González and Horacio Zeballos will face Andre Goransson and Elías Ymer in a doubles clash to determine the final score of the rivalry.
Croatia and Italy completed Group A of the Davis Cup Finals group stage. The first two will access the Final Phase which will be held in November in Malaga. EFE
