The driver of the Williams team, Alex Albon, has been released from the hospital in Milan where he was transferred when he was attacked with appendicitis during the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. What should have been a simple operation on Saturday led to respiratory failure, due to the anesthesia, and they had to connect him to mechanical ventilation and transfer him to the ICU.
The evolution was swift and a team spokesman confirmed that the Thai-born British driver was discharged on Tuesday and is now at his home in Monegasque.
Albon, 26, was replaced at Monza by Dutch reserve Nyck de Vries, who finished ninth on his career debut after qualifying eighth and scored two vital points for the historic British team.
Williams reported Monday that Albon suffered “unexpected post-operative anesthetic complications leading to respiratory failure.” He spent Saturday night in intensive care and was taken off mechanical ventilation on Sunday. After two days he was released from the hospital.
The next F1 race is in Singapore on October 2 where he is expected to return to his Williams.
