They are a cry for help, the latest protest – when hospital staff don’t know what to do, they write a hazard report to draw attention to the massive problems. As reported, this also happened in the Ottakring Kliniek – not for individual departments, but for the entire house. Instead of reacting immediately, the head of the clinic just put danger warnings on his desk. Now he has lost his job.
The reason: lack of staff, the line of resilience has been crossed, it was said, and patient care is under threat. “The burden is so great,” a doctor told us. “People don’t like going to work anymore.”
The suspicion was quickly there: the health association is looking the other way. Politics also foamed. FPÖ leader Dominik Nepp demanded: “Apparently numerous threat reports are being covered up. Hacker and board of directors must resign.” In fact, the “cover up” may have turned out differently, as the “Krone” taught.
