Didier Deschamps, coach of France, said on Thursday that Paul Pogba, Juventus midfielder, will not be called up for the 2022 Qatar World Cup “if he is not fit”. Pogba is in a race against time to recover from an injury in time to participate in the World Cup.
Deschamps insists he won’t agree to call up Pogba “just for the gallery”. The ‘bleu’ coach explained, “I know Paul and I talk to him regularly, he will do everything to recover, without taking risks, but today you cannot say yes or no, because the number one condition is that he recovers, I don’t ever entered a tournament with a player who had not fully recovered”.
Pogba, who this summer returned to Juventus from Manchester United, is recovering from a knee injury. The World Cup will be held between November 21 and December 18.
