Congress’ plenary meeting this Thursday agreed, with the support of the PSOE, United We Can and its usual partners, to establish a new commission of inquiry for the interior ministry he headed. Jorge Fernandez Diaz in the first reign of Mariano Rajoy.

This is the third agency to investigate alleged parapolice plots that will operate in the House of Representatives and in this particular case investigate what is known as ‘Operation Catalonia’ and will extend those performed in the previous course on the ‘Operation Kitchen’.

On the initial request to the House to re-examine ‘Operation Catalonia’, the PSOE has tabled an amendment, which has been accepted, for the new committee to also open investigations into other allegedly irregular actions organized by the Ministry, in collaboration with the summoned ‘patriotic police’.

For example, the commission will finally aim to “investigate the actions of the Ministry of the Interior during the government of the People’s Party regarding the alleged irregularities linking senior officials and police officers, as well as their relationship to possible private networks or pressure lobbies, the possible interference with the sovereignty of other countries and the connections of this plot with the so-called ‘Operation Catalunya'”.

For example, the study proposed last June will be extended by: ERC, Junts, PdeCat, CUP, EH Bildu and BNG for Congress to “analyze the alleged interference in the sovereignty of the Principality of Andorra by Spanish political leaders, as well as vigilante networks under the so-called ‘Operation Catalonia’.

These formations have requested this investigation after learning that the Andorran judiciary is investigating the former president Mariano Rajoy and his former finance and interior ministers, Cristobal Montoro and Jorge Fernandez Diazrespectively, for their alleged relationship to attempts to learn secret banking details of pro-independence political leaders “through illegal channels”.

The Catalan side of the commission wants to clarify the actions of the political leaders charged by the Andorran justice system, as well as the possible existence of any parapolice plot outside the law and democratic control within state institutions and their possible links with possible private networks or pressure lobbies.

Congress has already had two commissions of inquiry on the so-called police ‘sewers’ in the phase of the first Ministry of the Interior of the Raoy government, one on the so-called ‘Operation Catalonia’ to spy on and discredit the Catalan independence movement and the most recent on ‘Operation Kitchen’, the alleged spying on former PP treasurer Luis Bárcenas to steal documents entrusted to the party
