Ortuzar, Esteban or Olano? The race for the EB’s presidency is complicated

After the first return of the internal renewal process of the PNV National Executive, the Euzkadi Buru Batzar (Eb), the race to the presidency of the Yeltzales has become More competitive than expected. What looked like a trial without shocks for Andoni Ortuzar, in his repetition as president of the EB of the PNV, has taken an unexpected turn, especially with the irruption of Aitor Esteban, spokesperson for the PNV in the congress of representatives who, who has, has Gathered important support in the first round. Both are almost connected in Bizkaia, although Ortuzar takes into account the final calculation of all areas, Ortuzar has more support. Although Sabin ETXEA does not offer official data, it is Ortuzar who has more support after he has imposed himself with a large margin in Araba, Nafarroa and iParralde. According to Yeltzales, he has collected the support of around 170 Batzokis. The PNV leader currently offers no indications about his last decision.

In Bizkaia, territory with more militants and local meetings, there is a maximum equality between Ortuzar and Esteban. In the case of the latter, which would have been the first option in around 70 Batzokis, his environment indicates that it is to collect the glove and continue.

In the meantime, in Gipuzkoa the name that is most repeated to lead the party that of former general deputy, imposed in around 30 Batzokis. Olano’s victory in the Guipuzcoan territory can be interpreted as a message from the bases to have a greater weight in the new direction, although not necessarily occupying the presidency.

Decisive week

The assembly procedure for the renewal of the EB therefore arrives in his final phase. The resolution of the control bow must be produced before 10 February, when the start of a second round is planned that would last until 26 February. During those two weeks, the nationalist bond will have the right to choose an aspiring ebb presidency and eight Burukides.

As soon as the second voting round ends, this will be the turn of the territorial meetings in which the proxies of each municipal organization, by imperative mood in this case, must present the people in the second round in their respective Batzoki.

Similarly, as determined by the regulation of the PNV, the representatives of each territorial meeting, by imperative vote, must later vote in the national meeting that will meet within the framework of the General Meeting to the people designated in their respective territory.

There are a hundred people with the right to vote in the maximum body Yeltzale, the National Assembly, and they are designated by the territorial meetings of Bizkaia (38 representatives), Gipuzkoa (19), Álava (18), Navarra (15) and iParralde (5 ), as well as a member of every extraterritorial organization of Madrid, Argentina, Chile, Mexico and Venezuela.
